About Turkey

Connecting the european and asia continents together like a bridge, Turkey is one of the most important commercial and political points in the world due to ist location.

Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea is to the south; the Aegean Sea is to the west; and the Black Sea is to the north. 

The Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles (which together form the Turkish Straits) demarcate the boundary between Thrace and Anatolia; they also separate Europe and Asia. Turkey’s location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes it a country of significant geostrategic importance.

Turkish Culture

Turkish culture; It is a rich and eclectic culture that continues to exist in interaction with Anatolian, Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans, Siberia, Central Asian and Islamic cultures.

Anatolia, one of the oldest settlements in the world, has a cultural richness that is rarely seen with the influence of many different cultures that have existed in its thousands of years of history.

History of Turkey

The lands on which Turkey is currently situated named “Anatolia” were occupied by diverse cultures including Aiols, Dors, Ionias, Thracians and Persians during the Palaeolithic age. Then, the Hellenistic period started under the rule of III. Aleksandros which was followed by the domination of the Romans and Byzantines. During the 11th century, the triumph of the Seljuk Turks against the Byzantine Empire led to the opening of Anatolia to Turkish penetration and the gradual Turkification of the peninsula.

Founded after the fall of the Seljuk Empire, the rule of the Anatolian Seljuks continued until the Mongol invasion in 1243. After the invasion, many small Turkish principalities governed by Beys emerged. The Ottomans, one of these principalities, conquered the other principalities towards the end of the 13th century and evolved into the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire gained great power in Eurasia and Africa with territories stretching from Southeast Europe to West Asia and North Africa. After the 17th century, the Ottoman Empire began to decline and was destroyed in World War II, as a result of the War of Independence against the occupying forces in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who then founded the Republic of Turkey.

Turkey’s of  Geography

Turkey is divided into seven census regions: Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia and the Mediterranean. These different regions have different climates. Mediterranean and Aegean coasts have hot and dry summers and cool and rainy winters. The Black Sea, on the other hand, is cooler and rainier in summer due to its mountains extending parallel to the sea.
